Samsung has officially announced their very own “ultrabooks”, which were supposed to be called as the Chromebooks, in Korea. The Series 5 Ultrabooks, which come in 13- and 14-inch sizes, are not the thinnest nor the lightest among other ultrabooks you see around but you surely can never go wrong in choosing these as they pack mouth-watering specs.
The 14-inch ultrabook, which is 20.9mm thick and 1.8kg heavy, has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and comes with an anti-reflective screen coating.
Aside from the indefinite Intel Core i5 CPU, the 14″ model packs an AMD HD7550M GPU, 1TB HDD, 16GB SSD for Samsung’s ExpressCache technology, up to 8GB of RAM, and an optical drive. It also supports USB, VGA, HDMI, and Ethernet ports.

The 13-inch variant comes with the same pixel resolution and coating but cuts down the dedicated GPU and optical drive that make it a little bit thinner and lighter (14.9mm thick and 14kg heavy).
It also gets the same specs and features such as a Core i5 CPU, up to 8GB of RAM, 16GB SSD for ExpressCache, and the mentioned (above) ports. The other difference is that, this only has 500GB HDD.
The ExpressCache technology uses the SSD to accelerate the hard drive’s performance. With this, waking the ultrabook from hibernation takes just seven seconds.
These ultrabooks also use another technology called FastStart, which allows the device to “wake up” from sleep in just two seconds!
Available in South Korea before the start of the new year, the Series 5 Ultrabooks are priced at $1300 and $1170-$1340 (depending on the configuration) for the 13- and 14-inch models, respectively.
